Columbia Helicopters:

Columbia Helicopters is a world leader in heavy-lift helicopter operations and has been an Oregon-based company since 1957.  The company owns and operates the largest private fleet of commercial heavy-lift helicopters in the world.  These aircraft operate in a variety of environments and industries around the world, to include timber harvesting and forestry management, oil exploration and support, firefighting and construction.

To keep the company’s fleet of aircraft flying, Columbia’s Aurora headquarters is also home to its extensive maintenance facility.  The company’s maintenance shops and hangar not only contribute to supporting its own aircraft with components and structural repair but also support a growing external customer base.  Many of Columbia’s current customers are capitalizing on the experience and know how gained form many years of supporting similar aircraft in diverse environments.

In support of our company mission, “… to be the provider of choice for maintenance solutions worldwide”, Columbia Helicopter’s started implementing Lean just over one year ago specifically targeting our maintenance shops and hangar.  Though not a traditional manufacturing environment we have been successful in applying Lean tools in our high mix maintenance services environment.  We look forward to sharing our successes and receiving your feedback in our problem areas.
